detail The 100th FS was founded in February 1942 as the Tuskegee Airmen, an all-black unit. After the end of World War II, it became a tanker and training unit. In September 2009, the new 100th FS transferred its equipment and personnel from the 160th FS of the Alabama Air National Guard, and painted its tails the same red as the P-51 to convey its tradition.
