detail Founded in May 1948 as a homeland air defense force, the 52nd FW moved to Spangdahlem Air Base in West Germany in December 1971, and in January 1973 took on the "Wild Weasel" Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses (SEAD) mission. In October 1985, it received the F-4G, and was deployed to Saudi Arabia and Turkey during the Gulf War. In 1994, the F-4G was retired.
