Since its opening, Itami Airport has been the gateway to Western Japan, with many airlines operating both domestic and international routes, but when Kansai International Airport opened in 1994, it handed over its international routes to Kansai Airport, and has since functioned as an airport for domestic routes. Runway 32L (B) is Itami's main runway, used for takeoff and landing by small aircraft such as the ATR, Q400, A320, and B737, as well as medium and large aircraft such as the 777, 787, and A350.

The two runway boards are lined up to complete the design.
