The C-1 FTB (Flying Test Bed) is deployed at the Flight Development Test Wing at Gifu Air Base and was originally the first prototype of the C-1 (XC-1).
Its role is to actually test the Japan Air Self-Defense Force's aircraft engines and equipment in the air, and for this reason it is equipped with a long probe on its nose for measuring data.
It is also the only C-1 that still retains its silver color, a vestige of its prototype days.
