This aircraft was originally used by Pan American World Airways, and was sold to United in 1986. In 1988, Clay Lacy (former United pilot), known as the aerial cameraman for the movie "Top Gun," attempted a record-breaking flight around the Earth in the same aircraft, completing the course of 36 hours, 54 minutes, and 15 seconds.
