The 204th Squadron is based at Naha Air Base in Okinawa Prefecture and is the only fighter unit in the Southwest Composite Wing.
The squadron was previously based at Hyakuri Air Base, responsible for the defense of the capital, but in 2009 it moved to Naha, replacing the 302nd Squadron, which operates the F-4EJ Kai.
Due to the move, the Bald Eagle's unit markings were also slightly changed. When it was based at Hyakuri Air Base, it had a red crest representing the 7th Air Wing, but after moving to Naha, it now has eight crests and three gold crests at the bottom representing the 83rd Air Group.
