The Royal Air Force's No. 29 Squadron is a historic squadron established in 1915. The squadron badge depicts an eagle trying to catch a buzzard (a small hawk), depicting aerial combat. In the 1990s, the squadron participated in the Gulf War with the Panavia Tornado.
The Eurofighter Typhoon has been deployed in air defense roles since 2003, replacing the Tornado F.3 that had been in service since the 1980s.
The model's aircraft has an eagle, the symbol of the unit, painted on the black tail, and a large red XXX, which has been used since the late 1920s. The XXX is said to have come from a misspelling of the squadron number 29 in Roman numerals (XXIX), with the I omitted. A similar marking is also painted on the canards (front wings). The aircraft will be exhibited at various air shows in Europe until September 2014.
