The sixth installment of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force's transport aircraft, the Kawasaki C-1, is the 2nd Transport Air Group of the 402nd Squadron (Iruma Air Base), painted to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Air Self-Defense Force.
The C-1 first flew in November 1970, and deployment began in 1973. It is currently in operation with the 2nd and 3rd Transport Wings, as well as the EC-1 and C-1FTB.
The model aircraft was originally said to be painted red and white in a style reminiscent of Kabuki, but because the 1st Air Squadron based at Komaki Air Base is currently supporting the reconstruction efforts in Iraq, it was given a brown camouflage color reminiscent of the desert, and the white engine nacelles, representing their spirit, were inscribed with a powerful message that reads, "Fly forever, as long as there are those who protect it, turn our tradition into the power of the future."
Model 58-1007 has been repainted in standard paint and is still in active service today.
