During the 1991 Gulf War, a MiG-25 piloted by Iraqi Air Force Captain Zuhair Daoud shot down a U.S. Navy F/A-18C (piloted by Lt. Scott Skyper) of the 81st Fighter Attack Squadron "Sunliners." The Americans determined that this was the only loss from an aerial battle during the Gulf War, given the circumstances.
After being shot down, Major Scott went missing (MIA), and there were conflicting reports about his whereabouts, including that he was "shot down by a surface-to-air missile" and that he was "captured and survived in a prison camp." However, in 2009, an investigation team obtained information from nomads and others, and his identity was finally confirmed from the remains recovered from the crash site, and he was buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
